Negative: 10 out of NBA 2K. Where amazing happens. Even online this year. Yes, Ladies and Gentleman, the greatest sports game ever made has the best online netcode the series has ever had in this years game. Finding matches is a breeze, lag is virtually non existent, and the experience is grand. The remarkably fluid gameplay grabbing a rebound and taking off with Lebron happens instantaneously and flows like water, no canned animations, so life-like and real , impeccable commentary, and insanely good soundtrack immerse you into the game in ways that cannot be explained.
Jay-Z's involvement is felt the moment the game boots up when and incredibly video compiling performance footage of one of the greatest and most iconic songs of all time 'Public Service Announcement from Jay-Z's concert with in game 2K footage is so sick.
I watch every single time I boot the game up. And I probably always will. I love that track. But the truly amazing thing in this year's game to me, is the inclusion of Signature Skills.
Which I think is laying the foundation for another revolution by 2K in the sports video game genre. There are like 50 Sig Skills. Players can possess multiple and the skills have varying ways to effect gameplay. In the 4th quarter, they get a ratings boost across the board and you can literally feel there intensity level go up in the final minutes. Its incredible. Lebron's iconic Chase Down Blocker is one of his Sig Skills and you can see him speed up to reach a fast breaking opponent to get the block.
It's uncanny. Others include, Hustle Man, which gives the entire team and energy boost which someone with the skill makes hustle plays. Skills that give percentage boosts or drops depending on situation that can effect gameplay in ways only the deepest players will respect and love equally.
For anyone who is a die hard b-ball fan and gamer this is an incredibly deep gameplay mechanic that can only get better over the years once its expanded on. The guys over at 2K Sports are collective enclave of brilliant minds and have the utmost respect of this gamer. This game is the holy grail of Sports Gaming. It gets no better. This is my Game of the Year. This is better than 2K12 but this has disappointed me almost as much.
I have been a fan of 2K games since 2K7 and I have found that the This is better than 2K12 but this has disappointed me almost as much. I have been a fan of 2K games since 2K7 and I have found that the games have improved every year up until 2K12 which was my least favorite in the series, I thought the gameplay was close to terrible and the removal of crew game and a few other modes ridiculous.
In NBA 2K13, the team made an effort to seamlessly integrate ambient actions to make sure that players are doing things they would actually do in real life during dead ball situations.
The dynamic commentary I heard between Steve Kerr, Clark Kellogg, and Kevin Harlan proves they are still the premier virtual broadcast team. The conversations flow seamlessly, they discuss off-court activity and statistics like real-life commentators, and their cadence rises and falls with the intensity of the action. The broadcast replays are also unrivaled in sports games. This year NBA 2K takes one of the few good pages out of the Live playbook by revamping its right analog controls to include dribbling moves.
Dubbed the Control Stick, the right analog stick now works for dribbling, shooting, post play, and passing. Isomotion didn't allow players to do anything standing because it was tied to your movement stick.
Now you can cross over, go behind the back, or between the legs. This allows you to set up a guy up the way you would on a real court. Holding down the left trigger turns the Control Stick back into the Shot Stick from last year. Visual Concepts revamped the passing so players are smarter about which passes they make. This year if you take the ball down the middle on the fast break and see a guy filling the lane you will make a nice bounce pass instead of an overhead pass that is easy for the defender to pick off.
If you want to guarantee your player throws a bounce pass, you can hold the left trigger and press the pass button. Previous NBA 2K games married the passing and catching systems, which meant that the moment you made the pass, the catch was determined as well.
The game makes the appropriate pass at the time you press the button, and the intended receiver makes the appropriate catch based on when the ball is arriving. This should inject more variety into the pass catching animations and hopefully make some balls more susceptible to interception.
Trackbacks are Off. Pingbacks are Off. Refbacks are Off. All times are GMT The time now is PM. Top -. User Name. Remember Me? Both Sir Charles and Pippen haven't appeared in games recently by personal preference, but apparently Jay-Z called them and got them to sign on to appear on the Dream Team in the game.
Jay-Z also picked all of the music for the game, suggested a background that pulses with the soundtrack, and expanded on the pregame mixes that blend virtual game tape with the soundtrack, which is actually pretty awesome. Overall, while Jay-Z might not have changed much about the actual basketball aspect of the game, he sure made it look and sound great.
One of my personal favorite game modes, My Player. This career mode allows you to play as a current NBA player or to create your own and get drafted, and play your entire career. The mode was a lot of fun in 2K12 and has gotten even better in this year's installment. Like last year, you'll get experience points for your gameplay that you can use to upgrade your stats and ultimately get better. That's pretty much where the similarities stop.
Now you can spend points to take your team out to dinner, do charity work, or even ask for your head coach to be fired, which all effect how you develop as a player and how the fans like you.
