Thoughts go out to his family and friends. With his flowing blond locks, denim gear and Fender Telecaster, Rick Parfitt was one of rock's most recognisable guitarists. His partnership with Francis Rossi became the core of Status Quo, one of Britain's most enduring bands.
Their brand of boogie-woogie rock survived changes in musical fashion and made them one of the best-loved live acts of their generation. As well as driving the Quo sound on stage, Parfitt penned many of the band's biggest hits. Read more about Parfitt here. You rocked all around the world and back again! One of rock's great characters you will be missed.
Singer Boy George also paid tribute on Twitter: "R. P Rick Parfitt. Love Status Quo. It now has three pickups, which work in a Stratocaster configuration. From Francis has also been using a custom-built green 'Status' Graphite guitar, which is a Telecaster shape carved from a slab of ash with a graphite neck, stop tailpiece and loaded with three Hot Rails pickups.
The gauge of the strings Francis uses are:. For effects, Francis uses a Roland GP8 which boosts the signal to the amplifier, has five different overdrive patches and one patch which is a very tight straight double effect with some echo.
Between the output of the amp and the speakers are Palmer speaker simulators. The output of these goes out-front and is mixed with the miked signal from the Marshall cabinets and a miked signal from a Vox AC30 which is one of the new ones made by Marshall using exactly the same components as were originally used when they were first made in the sixties. You won't see the AC30's on the stage because they are kept behind the Marshalls.
Francis and Rick love the sound of the original AC 30's. In the old days these were loud enough to be the main stage amps but now the miked signal is sent out front to give the sound that extra fatness.
Francis uses Samson Radio systems on the guitar and for Radio headphones. Born: March 27th, From: Beckenham, South London. Andrew, otherwise known as 'Acid Man' because of his acerbic wit, is the multi-instrumentalist of the band and whilst he wouldn't admit it, is a fantastic musician.
Besides the keyboards, harmonica and guitar that you see him playing on stage with Quo, he is a great bass player, in fact not many people are aware that bass is his main instrument.
Dear old Rick and I exchanged quite a few messages before he died, and he had wanted me to play some drums on his [solo] tracks. Could something still come of the recordings being planned by Rick, Alan and yourself? I played on those albums. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to reunite the original line-up for two sellout tours in and to give Status Quo Frantic Four fans a final legacy and such a lasting memory.
He met future Status Quo bandmate Francis Rossi at Sedgehill Comprehensive School in , where they both performed with the school orchestra. The bassist and guitarist soon established their own band and played together in pre-Quo groups The Scorpions and The Spectres, alongside drummer John Coghlan.
