Who is the antagonist in rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead

Sure, he is annoying, but although he is merely an actor, he is more in control of reality than everyone else around him. I see the player as a protagonist because I think he is encouraging the ideas that Stoppard wants to highlight with his play. He stresses the finality of death, no matter what you do in life, it will all end to your great exit and possible fantastic entrance in to something else.

Rather they are just trying to exist, Rosencrantz says he would rather be alive in a box then dead in one. Therefore, the only real antagonist is Hamlet as he tries to have them killed by changing the letter. I feel as if the Player is neither a protagonist nor an antagonist. I personally saw him as more of a mentor or a guide. He neither helped nor harmed G and R.
